SUMMARY:
Buskerud Construction Inc. is a specialty highway contractor whose primary product lines include the following: guardrail, fencing, seeding, dirt and pipe work, signing, dust control, foundation drilling and erosion control. This position would require supervision of employees on any of the crews within the organization. The Supervisor is responsible to plan, organize and direct multiple employees on a daily basis to complete the scheduled work on time, safely and in budget with limited supervision. This person must be willing to lead people and take responsibility for completion of job tasks.
The employee would also be expected to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the General Laborer and Truck Driver (Class A and B) job descriptions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Directly supervise an average crew of 2 to 6 persons.
- Direct and train employees; perform performance evaluations; discipline employees as needed and document such actions.
- Work with supervisory personnel to resolve complaints and grievances with the work force as needed. Document the problem and resolution.
- Suggest personnel actions including terminations, hires, promotions, etc.
- Accurately record employee time, equipment usage, production quantities, materials and job notes and submit the information in the required timeframe. Maintain a daily diary including the job(s) worked on, weather conditions and any unusual circumstances.
- Maintain assigned equipment in good working order and perform field repairs as needed. Coordinate equipment maintenance with the Fleet Manager and notify him/her of breakdowns and required repairs.
- Schedule equipment to achieve maximum utilization and minimize the need for rentals.
- Ability to read, interpret and implement construction plans.
- Determine the sequence and manner in which work will be carried out, consistent with the Project Manager's directives and established schedules. Includes coordination of materials, equipment and labor.
- Maintain performance at a level consistent with the established schedules.
- Ensure all work, whether performed by Company workers or by subcontractors, meets the highest standards of quality workmanship.
- Receive and properly store all materials and equipment brought or delivered to the job site.
- Cooperate with other Construction Supervisors, the Fleet Manager and Project Managers in transferring equipment, materials and workers among projects

- Maintain neat and orderly work areas that are secure from unlawful intrusions and also protect the public.
- Communicate with the job Inspector/Engineer on job details and requirements.
- Provide a safe working environment for the crew by following and administering the Company Safety Program. Document and ensure corrective measures are implemented, where applicable.
- Responsible for the quality of the work on the job.
- Communicate any problems/concerns to Project Managers.
- Ability to work with other Construction Supervisors on jobs as needed.
- Perform work as a member of the crew.
- Inspect work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and adherence to construction schedules.
- Perform on-site safety and quality inspections.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QULAIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience
- Post secondary training in construction or engineering courses;
- Three years related experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as plans, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
Computer Skills
- Basic knowledge of computers and Windows based software, or the ability and willingness to learn.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Valid Class A or B CDL and a good driving record required.
- Tanker endorsement and medical card are optional.
- Flagger certification (provided by the Company)
- Forklift Operator (provided by the Company)
- OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour training (not required)
- Competent Person training (not required)

- Knowledge of construction technology, scheduling, equipment and methods.
- Mechanically orientated.
- Equipment operator experience helpful.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with adherence to deadlines.
- Initiative.
- Willing to work overtime and weekends when required.
- Overnight travel is required.
