SUMMARY:
Buskerud Construction Inc. is a specialty highway contractor whose primary product lines include the following: guardrail, fencing, seeding, dirt and pipe work, signing, dust control, foundation drilling and erosion control. The General Laborer would be required to perform physical activities on any of the crews within the organization. The position assists in maintaining highways, municipal and rural roads, and rights-of-way in a safe condition by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  • Repair, installation and/or removal of guardrails, highway markers, and fences.
  • Perform seeding,erosion control and pip installation/removal duties.
  • Drives truck to transport crew and equipment to work site.
  • May operate single rear axle truck under 26,000 GVW.
  • May oil, grease or otherwise service and make necessary adjustments to equipment as needed.
  • May perform work with air tools, such as breaking old pavement, driving sign posts, and loosening or tightening bolts.
  • Load and unload equipment and materials.
  • May operate hand and power tools of all types. Examples include: forklifts, tractors, jack hammers, impact wrenches and pound ers.
  • Perform work as directed by Supervisor. May require periodically working without a supervisor in attendance.
  • Must be willing to participate in company wide safety goals.
  • Check vehicles before driving them to ensure the mechanical, safety and emergency equipment is in good working order.
  • Inspect truck and construction equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil and water.
  • Employees are responsible for payment of fines and/or penalties received while driving Company vehicles and/or equipment (examples include seatbelt violations, speeding, over-weight, over-width, etc.)

Education and/or Experience

  • Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be 18 years old.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required; Class A or B CD> preferred.
  • Welder certification optional.
  • Flagger certification (provided by the Company)
  • Forklift Operator (provided by the Company)

Special Requirements

  • Ability to work well with other people.
  • Equipment operator experience helpful.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Initiative.
  • Willing to work overtime and weekends when required.
  • Overnight travel will be required.
  • Position is subject to seasonal winter layoff period.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
